Mouse Hunt
Part II

This mouse story takes place on a very cold sunny day in January of 2001. It was during the week and I was at class at CLC. My mom was home and my dad at work. The whole ordeal starts out when Margie our black and white cat started meowing at the other end of the house, while my mom was washing her hair at the other end. Margie kept on meowing so my mom goes to investigate. She gets halfway down the hallway and notices that Margie is bringing her a mouse with a really long tail. The only thing my mom could see of the mouse was the four inch long tail hanging out of the cat's mouth! Well my mom told the cat to DROP IT! Margie did and the mouse ran around her once or twice and then went into the den and disappeared under the couch. Marilyn the cockatoo joined in by squawking at it. Well my mom then took the cat out of the den and shut the door and sealed up the opening under the door so the mouse couldn't get too far. First my mom calls my dad and wants him to come home and see if the mouse. He does but can't find the varmit once he did get home. My mom then decided to sit tight until I got home at 10:30. I get home hear the story and decide to gather the proper mouse capturing tools. Two cats, a yard stick, a box, gloves, and a flashlight. I bring everything in. At the time the Marilyn was pacing back and forth in her cage and the two cats were sniffing around looking for clues. First I took the flashlight and looked behind the entertainment center; nothing there. Then I thought if I was a mouse I'd go someplace warm on a cold winter's day. The couch; that's where he must be! I started taking the pillows off and I spotted him going down towards the bottom. And he did indeed have a long tail! I got down on my hands and knees and looked under the couch with the light. I saw him sitting there looking at me and the cats. I poked the yard stick under there but in didn't work, he kept on hopping over it. Since the couch was actually a hide-a-bed I decided that M.J. could get him as soon as I opened it up. Margie sat at one end of the couch while M.J. got ready to jump in after him. I lifted it up and the mouse ran one way as the cat went after him. M.J. chased the mouse down towards Margie. And you know what, the mouse ran straight into Margie's mouth. I told her the drop the mouse right away and she did. The mouse was playing dead as I picked it up. I set him in the box just as he stopped acting. I then toke him outside and decided to let him go under one of our yew bushes. I opened the mouse and tried to push him out. Instead of running from me he ran up my arm to almost my shoulder, sat there for 5 seconds and ran back down and jumped into the bush! My mom saw the whole thing from the window.
I'm always catching mice, so far I've caught eight in all. And that's just in one year alone.
